A time for Peace
World peace

In recent months the media has given a lot of coverage to the 100 year anniversary of the First World War (1914-18). With this and the many other wars which are going on in our world at the present time: Central Africa, Ukraine, Syria and the recent conflict in the Gaza Strip to name but a few, many of us must dream of a world without war, a world of peace.

The many caring and heroic stories that accompany these wars barely begin to balance the depth of violence that individuals and countries will perpetrate in the name of patriotism or even in the name of God - a God who commands us not to kill but to "love our enemies".

The Bible offers a message of hope and peace for the world. Below are some quotes from both the Old and New Testaments:

"And He (the LORD God) shall judge among the nations and shall rebuke many people. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, nor shall they learn war any more."
Isaiah 2:4

"To the ends of the earth He (the LORD God) makes wars cease - He breaks the bow, snaps the spear, burns the shields in the fire." Psalm 46:9

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4

The above is not an exhaustive list, there are other passages which offer the same message of hope (see I Corinthians 15:26, 54, Psalm 72:7).

Inner peace

As well as world peace, the Bible has much to say about our own inner peace. Jesus offered his life as a sacrifice for our sins, but before his death and resurrection he gave his disciples this supreme gift:

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27

Jesus also bids us: "Come to Me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus can give us real inner peace which we can enjoy when we align our lives with him.

Having a relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ, both of whom care for you, is a sure way of achieving peace in your life.

The Bible offers a message of real peace for the world as a whole and for us personally. It is just waiting there to be found by you.

We have two free booklets for download: "A time for peace" and our special edition of Glad Tidings which examines what the Bible says about peace with God. This includes having peace of mind, finding a right relationship with God through the saving work of Jesus and understanding what God is about to do to transform our war-weary world into a peaceful place where righteousness and right-thinking will prevail.

We also have a Distance Learning Course which helps you to study the Bible for yourself. This 12-part course will be sent to you for free when you enrol.

In our literature section you will find booklets covering different Biblical topics which can be read online or downloaded in pdf format. We hope you enjoy your visit.
